So if I were to do one of these 'list your five favorite whatevers' memes, I'd have to do research... I mean, what the hell? You people keep these things in your head, you just know them? in order?

...

[Aha, a regression! I'd already solved this before by keeping written lists of my favorite things in one of the sections of my day planner. Apparently I lost that 'feature' when I moved from a paper system to PalmOS, many years ago.]

The thing that disturbs me about filling out favorites lists is that they're so revealing. I mean, what if everybody thinks I'm a dork because I still listen to 80s hair bands? (I mean, everybody probably does, and no, I shouldn't worry about it, but dude, I worry. 'S what I do.) So if I bother to reply to favorites-memes, it's always tongue-in-cheeck, intended to poke somebody's buttons, and never 100% accurate. I'm just too wary.

Didn't you used to have a list of all the books you've ever read, ranked by goodness? That should solve the research problem for the inevitable book meme.

Yeah, all of this journaling stuff is revealing, and you're right, the quizzes where you have to generate favorites lists are very much so.

But it's fun. Endearingly silly exhibitionists all.

I do have a books-read list somewhere, but it's unranked.
