I have returned (a few days back, which hopefully I will cover in later entries) from my ninth Burning Man festival.

I'm in San Francisco, visiting the lovely humanitics. She's at work; I'm sitting in the Laguna Sidewalk Cafe in San Francisco, just across from the San Francisco Zen Center, where I attended the introductory zazen meditation instruction. It was very impressive, and quite pleasant.

I think I *can* actually sit still for fifteen minutes.

thank you. you are the sweetest of the people I wish I knew better! this is a nice neighborhood for walking if you'd like to try a weekly walk-and-talk afternoon constitutional, or something like that.

I was pretty wide open this year, just watching the temple burn. only a few tears; mostly stillness. I bumped into someone's leg as I was trying to get closer in, and I touched his shoulder in apology. I saw that he was crying, and I returned my hand to his shoulder more firmly, just long enough for our eyes to meet. A slight nod of acknowledged connection and I continued to make my way in closer to the slowly burning frame of the temple.

"what's going to happen to me?" was the question running over and over in my head. an unusual one for me, and i don't know that i wanted an answer, rather, i wanted to know why i had the question. still don't know, really. there are layers to it.
