There is a warrant out for my arrest
for failing to make a court appearance
required because I failed to mail the court proof
that I had maintained automobile insurance for six months
which was a "deal" the prosecutor made with me
because I had been ticketed, twice in as many weeks,
for failure to show proof of "financial responsibility"
(which is not something I generally have)
because I had allowed my insurance to lapse
and if just two of those citations occur
they take away your driver license
so I paid them a lot of money
and agreed to keep insurance for six months
which I did not in fact do
because I had no money
and allowed it to lapse again

(Official reminders might have saved me
but I was not reminded
because I did not check my post office box
because my rent on the post office box was overdue)

I have checked on this and
the only recourse I supposedly have
is to present myself to the court, in person
where I will go that day before a judge
who will decide how much money
I must pay
in order to leave again
or he might just keep me there.

Any advice?

If you have the money, I would go in and pay this necessary fines. You have bad luck with the fuzz in Austin, and avoiding this further might just be a hazard in the making. If you don't, well, I personally would dodge the law, keep finding work and money, and then pay it later. Or just move. Do you know I have unpaid parking tickets in Vancouver, and a Utah (bastards!) ticket for losing control of my car in a blizzard? Neva gonna pay those.
